This Week in Web3...

A U.S. district court judge ordered NFT artists Ryder Ripps and Jeremy Cahen to pay Bored Ape Yacht Club's creator, Yuga Labs, $1.57 million in disgorgement, damages, and legal fees over a copyright infringement lawsuit. This ends the verdict for one of the biggest NFT Lawsuits to date.

CryptoPunk NFT holders have the opportunity to acquire physical prints of their digital assets through a 48-hour collaboration between online art retailer Avant Arte and CryptoPunks owner Yuga Labs, starting Oct. 26. Two print versions are available: "Punk-On-Chain" for verified CryptoPunk owners, and "10,000 On-Chain" open to all. Each type has distinct features and comes with authentication mechanisms, such as a holographic sticker from Yuga Labs and a Certificate of Authenticity.

Hot Take

More digital artists and projects will be leaning into the physical. We already see this with HUG’s launch of their print shop and even Prohibition heart + craft enabling you to do a 3D printed version of your asset minted.

On Oct. 25, Deadfellaz teamed up with Reddit to launch exclusive avatars. These DeadFellaz Reddit Avatars were available in three basic designs, allowing users to personalize them with various backgrounds, accessories, and color choices. The collection sold out almost instantly on Reddit, underlining its success and resonating with the Reddit audience, just in time for Halloween.

Memeland, a Web3 project developed by the team behind the renowned meme-sharing platform 9GAG, raised $10 million within 42 minutes of its token sale going live. The token website stated a disclaimer for those who are interested in participating, “$MEME is literally a meme coin. No utility. No roadmap. No promises. No expectation of financial return. Just 100% memes.”

Quick Headlines

AI Corner

🦾 AI can now identify a forest's species through sound analysis. Researchers at the University of Würzburg have developed an AI method to identify the biodiversity of rainforests through sound recordings. By analyzing sounds from various sites in the Ecuadorean rainforest, the AI models trained on 75 bird species and identified species as accurately as experts. The technique offers a time-efficient alternative to manual bioacoustic analysis and could be vital for monitoring global forest restoration projects funded by companies like L’Oreal and Shell.
