Web3, AI and the creator economy in under 3 minutes per week!
Hey Alpha Fam! I hope everyone has had a great week so far; mine has been full of travel, big news, conferences, and sand surfing in the desert.
What You Need to Know:
Apple is back at the negotiation table with OpenAI, creators of ChatGPT, to potentially integrate its AI into the upcoming iOS 18, sparking rumors of new AI-powered features. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple is not only developing its own large language models but also exploring a "chatbot/search component" through its discussions with OpenAI. At the same time, Apple is courting Google for its Gemini AI chatbot, leaving open the possibility of leveraging technologies from both, one, or neither.
Amidst an AI frenzy in Silicon Valley, Apple has remained relatively reserved about its AI ambitions. However, signs of its deepening commitment have surfaced, including CEO Tim Cook's enthusiasm for AI during a recent earnings announcement and the launch of the AI-supercharged M3 MacBook Air.
Meanwhile, Apple's highly anticipated AR/VR headset, the Apple Vision Pro, has seen a significant drop in interest and sales, leading to a 50% cut in its sales forecast just two months after launch, despite its initial buzz.
As referenced in this article, here is how AI will potentially change our iPhones and its impact on developers:
• Apple says they are launching OpenELM, “Open-source Efficient Language Models.”
• Apple's new AI makes iPhones faster and keeps your data private.
• Expect smarter Siri, improved typing suggestions, and cooler features for creating content.

🔥My Hot Take: Knowing that Apple likes to own the products they release and keep within their ecosystem, it’s surprising they’re being so public about using other big brand AI models. No doubt, AI will be incorporated into all our Apple devices in the future; but I predict it will be their own model in the end, versus someone else’s. It’s like Apple promoting Spotify as a go-to music source versus Apple Music. On the other hand, if they go the opposite direction, it could be a new approach to how they look at partnerships and a view of collaboration versus competition in the AI age.
In the News:
I had a great time talking to Inc. Magazine features editor Diana Ransom at SXSW for the From the Ground Up podcast, sharing my journey as a creator/founder in media and growing my company, What’s Trending.
Kick-off Mental Health Awareness Month with me!
Join me for the ARTS & HEALING digital art exhibit at The Dream Hollywood on May 1st from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM PDT, brought to you by my well-being company Peace Inside Live, The Crypt Gallery, and Sketch Poetic.
The art will be featured in the lobby the month of May, as well as in NYC at The Dream Downtown.
On My Radar:
The Humane AI Pin is a wearable gadget intended to translate languages in real-time, aiming for more natural conversations by avoiding screens and delivering translations with a natural voice.
However, the device has come under fire after users, including reviewer Victoria Song, reported that it often fails to translate correctly, especially with complicated languages like Korean and Japanese. These issues have led to frustration and doubts about the device's practicality.
Backlash is common when it comes to new concepts, especially in tech. Regardless of the backlash, I am interested to see where things can go from here. Anything that can lower screen time is a win for me!
